Loved, loved, loved it. Great episode! The perfect cast of characters. Intelligent conversation about anime. I’m usually not a huge Roy fan (comes off a bit public access-ish sometimes) but he added a good balance to the conversation. I don’t often watch a title based on a review but I will definitely be checking out Soul Eater, they made it sound so good. Oh yeah, Nick totally looks like he could be on Smallville, right? Miley you look good girl!

A good recommendation for a Underexposed is ‘Elfen Lied’. Its a dark anime, but I feel that it is something worth the time of otakus. However, this anime is not for the faint of heart.

Ok this show is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!! The story is great from beginning to end! The characters are funny and really smart, each one had something to remeber them forever. Maka and her ” Maka Chop”, Soul and his cool style, Black star and his girly voice( I knew it was a girl voice actor). But two of my fave characters are Death the Kid and They Holy Sword Exculabur ( hope I spelled it right). Kid with his obesstion with perfection and Exculibur with his look and attitude. I love the episodes where was hard core fighting scenes! The comedy was great to the very end. I purely love the last episode when Maka “beats” Asura. Now if your not happy with how it ends then check out the manga, it’s still going! I read it online cuz I’m broke as hell! If you read it online then the next chapter comes out next week Monday! I can’t wait to read it! XDXDXDXDXDXDXD

My recommendation for an underexposed anime would have to be Big Windup! I just came across it by chance, never heard about it before and now it’s in my collection and I love it.

Why are there so few sports anime in the US?

I second GaoGaiGar King of Braves for underexposed. I hope you guys get around to reviewing One Piece. Since Bleach and Naruto have already been reviewed, it just seems like the obvious next step. It really needs more positive exposure and if Miley’s appraisal of the current manga chapters are good, I can’t to see what you guys think of the current FUNimation dub. They finished releasing the final part of the Alabasta arc, so now seems more than a good time than ever. Also some anime from the 80s would be good to review from either the main cast or underexposed. Fist of the North Star, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Dragon Ball, etc.,

so i watched all 51 episodes of soul eater!!! anyways great series!!! i loved the animation and the battle scenes but the strongest elements in this i would say is the plot and characters they are very unique and very fun. it has a lot of good humor in at the right times and is very serious when it needs to be. however the only problem i had with this series is the second half until the ending. in the first half they were following the manga which is still ongoing!!! and it was great but on the second half i think the anime caught up to the manga and had to come up with their own storyline. so i find the second half of the story really rushed and sloppy up to the climax which is one of the worst I’ve seen. anyways to all those who are planing to watch soul eater don’t expect the ending to be any good and to those who are a fan of this series i highly recommend checking out the manga with a better storyline for the second half of the anime a lot more plot twists and its up to 71 chapters and still going!!!

About Bakemonogatari… It’s a really good show. Miley mentioned how in Soul Eater there are certain jokes that get missed through subs and translation? And I feel like that’s a problem for Bakemonogatari, too, but I’m not fluent in Japanese so I can’t really be sure.
It’s dialogue-heavy, but that dialogue is really interesting, and Araragi seems like a really smart character so I’ve never had a problem with him.
And as for the cutting, I was fine with that until episode 10 (right?) when they were trying to get rid of Nadeko’s curse. It became so excessive at that point that I wanted to scream.

But really, it’s a great show! :] It has a unique enough story and, again, the dialogue between the characters is interesting. Their design is cute, too… I’m not really sure who this show appeals to, though… It’s not easy to say that it’s good for “guys” or “girls”. There’s a little bit of pervy stuff for guys, but… I don’t know.

I think Bakemonogatari causes Bailey such problems because it’s so unique. It’s a surrealistic show, which to begin with is not big in anime (Fooly Cooly or Revolutionary Girl Utena (especially the movie) might be examples), and its particular kind of surrealism is more South American than anything else I’ve seen in anime. The supernatural is very cleverly used to make concrete the traits of the characters and the internal demons that they face. It’s not clear how much objective reality the supernatural has here; to want to focus more on the supernatural, like Bailey suggests, is to miss the point of the show, IMO.

This is a great character-oriented show. with very witty dialog throughout. It’s refreshing to have characters behave intelligently as they try to change themselves and help others change. The unique presentation of it matches the unique surrealism. It assumes intelligent viewers; viewers aren’t beat over the head a hundred times with “this is my problem. how do I solve it” whines. There have been very few shows aimed at viewers who think in recent years; I hope that the humongous success of Bakemonogatari in Japan means there will be others in the near future.

Bakemonogatari is not for everybody, as Bailey says the action is minimal, although it’s not quite as bad as she says. If you like Serial Experiments Lain and Noir, I think you’ll love Bakemonogatari. I’ve only seen it once, and only the TV episodes (the last TV episode is one of the most perfect anime episodes I’ve seen – I had no real idea what to expect throughout, but they got it so absolutely “right” that I don’t want to see the 3 web episodes coming out until they finish – it might ruin the impact of episode 12). But just based on the one seeing, I would say it’s of the same quality as the four classics I’ve mentioned here. Highly recommended.

  16. lol why are you guys talking about Bakemonogatari if this post is about Soul Eater? BTW @Rob, when are you going to post all the episodes of Soul Eater? I’m waiting :P
